Latest cigar box uke
Hi,
I've been at it again. Tenor uke with 17'' scale and piezo pickup. This is build No7 so I am starting to be able to pick the good boxes before the build. The coolest looking ones dont always sound good. As cigar boxes go this is the best sounding one so far for me. Still not as good as a built from scratch box but good enough to play with the uke group. I cheated a bit and got a rosewood fretboard. It saves a bit of work and rosewood is not exactly laying around my neck of the woods.
This is not a buildalong but some pics anyhow.
Regards
John

looking good
hi John. Looks great. I`m making three ATM. One is a real cigar box and the other two are boxes I have made. Will post some pics when finished...hopefully before X mas. I`m up to fretting the fb`s and a tad apprehensive as it`s been a long while since I`ve done one. Made my first full size G back in `87 and these three are the first since then......besides helping yr 12 Ind Tech students when I was teaching it. My fb`s are rosewood as well and will look terrific with some finish on them. Wish I could play.....lol. cheers, Graeme

Hi Graeme,
Looking forewards to your pics when you get them done.
I have mostly done my own frets but the last 2 ukes I have just got the fret boards on line as I would be up for more money buying rosewood, fret wire and MOP dots. It is a great time saver too. If you buy 5 or more they are $10 each. I still fret the cigar box guitars. This cigar box thing is sort of my apprenticeship and I would like to go no and build propper instruments. I also have to get tooled up so I guess I better start building a shed load of clamps and other stuff.
As for playing I'll just say I am better than I used to be.
Have fun with the build.
Regards
John

Nice work!

I`ll have honey instead of jam if thats ok. Gee those fingerboards sound cheap. I have to get machine heads and fret wire next...and some piezo pickups etc. Prolly get some cheap chinese m/heads and regret it. I wonder if the locking ones are worth the money? Might have to ask some more questions. cheers.
