1/4 SCALE MODEL MG TC

Hi ,
This 1/4 scale 1945 MG - TC is scratch built (mainly from scrap timber ) .
The model is all wood with some paper used for gauges, engine and body id plates and radiator hoses.
There has been no use of metal or plastics in this - as stated in the heading - most of the wood was regarded as scrap and destined to end up in another blokes wood heater.
The exception was lengths of dowel bought from a local hardware .
The model is a true 1/4 scale and measures at just under 1 metre long.
Work started on this in early November 2013 and completed in early September 2014.
I started this model using a drawing -
Although not accurate ,This drawing gave me details such as wheel size and overall length to work from.
The MG - TC wheel spoke pattern had to be worked out from photos of the real thing as well as the "old" compass , pencil and ruler ( All 48 spokes per wheel ).
The model has full mechanical detail -
The steering box is a working model of the real thing,
The internal working parts are a Da Vinci screw and matching gear , This is connected to an idler arm and steering rods .
The door catches operate with the use of slide gearing that I had to work out to fit a 20mm x 20mm internal space ,The door hinges work and rear side curtain compartment opens and closes.
The universal joints on the tail shaft function, And the bonnet or hood sides and tops open and close in the "concertina fashion "of the full sized car.
The body shape was worked out with cardboard templates I tried - cut and tried again and again to finally get right.
A model of this scale requires large pieces of timber (I only had a couple of pieces of cedar large enough to cut the body panels from ) .
Card templates can be perfected before any timber is cut.
The model is finished with wood wax.
I entered this model in The 2014 Royal Melbourne Show.
It was awarded ...........a first place and best in woodwork.


Note : This thread has been rewritten as I failed to mention that this model was mainly derived from "scrap timber" I think that was an important fact that should have been mentioned - Also it was originally typed in capital letters - This was seen to be worth a mention so it has been amended.

You blow me away with your models. I think about them a lot .The effort you put into finding the fine details and getting them spot on is one thing,
But creating it in wood is really magic .There is no blocky make do bits its all scale.
A scale working steering box! next will be a scale 4 speed gearbox
You are by far the best Model maker I have met

Jeez Aussie you'll give me a big head - With praise like that Ha ha - As far as a gearbox goes - Well that might be included in a future project. Any ideas ?
The internet is a great source of reference - To see how things work in pictures is a great help .
There is so much information on it .To see the real item of what you're trying to model makes it possible for me . .
