Default ...and then the Bricks Arrived!

    Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen

Thursday just gone saw the delivery of my bricks on site. My bricky was very particular with the positioning of the bricks, so I supplied a mud map to the brick Company. I was a little concerned that the brick transporter would experience difficulty with the soft sand on the steepish driveway, but he transitted the driveway 56 times, no probs. I guess the bob cat work we did the week before solved any traction problems.

    28 slices of bricks delivered!!!

Today, I painted some lintels which I had bought rather cheaply through Gumtree

Bricky reckons he may start Monday or Toooosday

    Happy Days

    Default Some progress...... of sorts

    Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen
Well, last Wednesday, I had some progress. The bricky was going to start. I thought I had better take the day off and assist where I can to ensure the doors and windows are where they should be. I would also run around and get coffees and pies etc, keep the brickies happy and industrious.

They arrived at 0700 and set up. The head bricky is mate from indoor beach volleyball, a fellow Australian Champion. Anyhoo, the two lads were both nice young fellows, surprisingly clean cut and not covered with tattoos and ear holes.

They worked well until 1400. The boss did all the brain work, looks good and he is fastidious. I like that, I suffer from a bit of CDO myself. CDO is like OCD, but I have to have the letters in alphabetical order

They had achieved a course of bricks the entire perimeter of the 20 x 6.5 meter slab plus 4 courses on one short wall.

They then started to pack up. I thought they might be worried about the security of equipment, I thought they could save time tomorrow if they left their gear. Nope, they went off to another job!!!

Spoke to boss, he reckons they might be back the Wednesday after Easter
I have also planted a heap of pumpkins. I thought as may as well be productive and they may help to keep the weeds down.

Oh well, that is some progress.
    Cheers

A brickie without ear holes sounds like a recipe for disaster

In the building game there is an old adage......... if you find a good bricky, shoot him before he goes bad
    or
There are no good brickys anymore, their all in Rookwood Cemetry
The person who never made a mistake never made anything

    Default Brickies

My mate the bricky is now on a cruise. He came back on day 2, but to do the brain work and mark out the pillars for the boys.

The boys are on another job. I spoke the other bricky yesterday, as they thought they may be back Wednesday, nope still going with another job. Might be back Monday. No boss (cruise), a ceiling plasterer and a 1st year apprentice, what could go wrong?

    You wouldn't believe it!!!
I am off crook today, the phone just rang as I hit the POST button for the previous post and the brickies are working today, as it is raining too hard in another suburb. Doesn't make sense to me, but hopefully will get some work done, Yaaaaaayyyyyyy

    Default Brickies

Good progress made the last few days. The boss is still on his cruise, but the boys are doing okay laying approx 400 bricks per day, last three days they have been at work, only 7500 remaining. The next few days are a little more fiddly as doors and windows will now start going in.
6.6 meter 200 x250 x 10 mm steel T-bar delivered to day for the garage opening.

Will order 19 steel trusses today me thinks

How are you going to hold the trusses down?

What size engaged piers are the brickies doing and at what centres?

    Default A couple of piccys

Sorry to leave you hanging Ladies and Gentlemen
Visited the block tonight to check on progress (GOING Well!!!).
Here are two photos, late afternoon, long shadows and batteries died on me. The brickie is at the point where windows and doors need to be positioned, which I have done.
The 240 kg lintel turned up, the truck couldn't get down the back block, so dumped it in the driveway, I will have to carry it down.
Also, bin night, so I swapped out the sulo bins. I live in hope that the brickies realise that rubbish goes in bins! Generally seems to be working

As the block is 1500 square meters, I have planted a heap of pumpkins around the place, may get a feed or two, who knows, nothing ventured, nothing gained

The roof trusses. Don't have the drawings with me, 19 trusses will be held down with threaded rod, the final three courses of bricks, I am close to the ocean, so high wind is a consideration
    Cheers
