A little something you may or may not have known
What else do you think a skew rabbet plane is good for? JOINTING edges, if set correctly which can take up to 100 years not only will it make perfect rabbets eliminating the need for a shoulder plane but perfect edges as well. How did discover this you may ask well I was jointing a very long 1" thick board and I was off by a little not a great deal but not perfect. I looked at my bronze edge plane and thought to myself if you only you were wider then it dawned on me why not try the skew rabbet plane because I know I set it correctly previously and presto a couple of light passes and edges was jointed squarely.
Hope this helps someone out there.Last edited by Bedford; 14th October 2014 at 07:19 PM. Reason: Tidy up.

I guess with a fence to help keep things square why not. I jointed the odd board with a No4 when it was all I had but a longer plane is my pick now especially for long edges.
