The lathe shown is a 260 not a 9,the 260 steady mounts on the front rather than the rear.

ah makes sense now. Could the 9 be drilled and tapped at the front? Is the 260 & 9" steady the same or different?

You would need to remove the saddle to confirm there is enough meat to drill and tap,you would probably also have to machine a pad for the steady to mount to on the leading faces of the saddle,the 260 steady straddles the saddle.
