Tapering jig for a CMS saw
I wanted to cut some 2.5° tapered legs for a table I'm making. It took me a while to nut it out (as these things do ) but this is what I came up with.
There may well be simpler ways of doing it but this was pretty hassle free and took about 15 minutes to make (plus thinkin' time o'course). The handle on the Bessey clamp made an excellent push handle, as luck would have it.
On the first leg to be cut I had marked the line tapering from 100mm to 70mm. Having measured it with a protractor (which said 2.5°) I checked it with an Excel calculation using the tangent, and that said 2.35° was the closest fit (if memory serves). I set the mitre gauge to ~2.5° (actually 87.5°) and to my enormous surprise the cut was absolutely spot on to the pencil line (parallel to the cut edge offset by ¼mm all the way along). This was such a big surprise because there is a little bit of twist play in the jig, and it was eyeball lined up.
