    Question Balanced Lug- Reefing help?

I've recently finished building a small 12-foot skiff, with a balanced lug sail (OZ Racer sail from RSS Sails/ Duckworks). A few days ago, I took it out for its first sail, and put the first reef in.

I'm using a Storer-style halyard arrangement (halfway down the page), and it works great without reefs. I've fixed a lot of problems with my rig since then (and there were a bunch), but I haven't found a good solution to the yard pivoting too far aft. My current solution is to tie the yard block attachment to the mast, but that binds and is not easy to do under way. I also tried moving the halyard block further aft, but it's pretty cumbersome to do under way, especially with the head lacing.

Has anyone here encountered a similar problem, and have you found a solution? I have a feeling I'm missing something rather obvious.

    Thanks!

Looking at the pic, I think the only complete cure is a parrell around the mast at the halyard point on the yard.
Could be made quick-release to assist rig/derigging.
I did that with a loop & toggle on my Teal.

I was afraid it might be that way- although I do like the quick-release toggle idea!

Are you using the same halyard attachment method?

    I was.
My sail was small enough that I never needed to reef it.
Sold the boat a few months ago. Currently boatless (unless one includes a couple of kayaks that I can't use at the moment.)

A parrell is no big deal to make. Could be as simple as a couple of little nylon dead-eyes 50-70mm apart & a bit of light cord.
