    Default Camera slider

This is my first post on the CNC Machines forum.

Maybe someone could throw some light on Nema 17 stepper motor drivers and power requirements.

I initially started a post over on the Metalwork forum re a camera slider starting with a basic design, and it quickly escalated into something far more sophisticated using a stepper motor.

    See here https://www.woodworkforums.com/f65/camera-slider-189538

Any input from this section will be appreciated.

    Default

First step is to find out what weight the load (camera) is and how fast it needs to move.
This will help choose the correct motor for the job.

Also, ask the mods to move the other thread to the CNC forum and, if possible, merge the two threads.

Default Camera mass and speed etc

Just weighed my camera, and it's about 1.4kg. With big lenses this could be up to 2kg.

The speed along the track is to be variable, but I would say in the range of 1mm per second to 20mm per second.

    Default Simple actuator

What I'm trying to achieve for my camera slider can best be demonstrated here

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DBmbtBd6bg

I would like to start with the electronics first as this is my weakest link.

I would like info on the Arduino uno board piggie backed with an adafruit stepper motor controller plus info on powering all this up out in the field, ie, battery powered.

    Can you get me started?
