I picked these up as a set a few years ago but know nothing about them other than the obvious.

Well, let's at least agree on what's obvious: Gumi handle, bachi nomi (fishtail), hooped.

So, how long ago and where did you buy them?

    Hi Pam,

I've had these for three years. There are seven in the set. I bought them on eBay.

The characters say Ichibu (could be a different reading) but I can't find any info on Google regarding who or what company makes it.

If it's a person's name it could be read as Kazu Takeshi.

If that is Okazaki Takeshi, he is very old smith from Sanjo.

But, I'm not sure the kanji stamp is the same... see here.

Some info on Takeshi in second half of this blog page.

    Neil

PS - some more info here that might sort out if they are
    Okazaki

    Hi Neil,
I did look up Okazaki Takeshi and visited the pages to check his stamp but the kanji in the name is too different and the characters there can't be read that way.

It would be nice if it were the case though.

    Thanks,

Here is a slightly better picture of the stamp on one of the other chisels.
