Glue on sanding disc adhesive.
Gday all, at our local men's shed, we have a 14 inch disc sander, which needed a sanding disc change, done and dusted, however we are now out of Bear Disc Cement, Preasure Sensative Adhesive. Tryed google, no result from Bear, Norton or3M. Any one have an idea were to purchase, said glue or have knowlage of an alternative.

As KB has mentioned...Sandpaper Man may be able to help with a different solution.
I have a 300mm disc sander and inquired about new adhesive discs to replace the original...they were able to sell me a conversion disc which is an adhesive backed Velcro disc. I removed the old disc and replaced it with the Velcro Disc. Now I just replace the sanding discs onto the Velcro. No more gluing or adhesive backed discs.

10th November 2014, 03:35 PM #7Not only that but you can swap between various grit grades and types of discs.
I switch between fine and coarse for wood and the blue disc for metal.
With the Velco......swap discs at whim and use them again later.
The Sandpaper Man may not have a converter kit for 14" (350mm) disc but they do sell the velco in 305mm wide off a roll so if you buy 0.5 m length and fix it on as 2 pieces then trim.

14" convertion kit
14" (356mm) velcro conversion kit is available here:
http://elraco.com.au/product_info.ph...it-holes-p-433
I got the 12" kits from them.
Good luck

Wow that's a big price jump from 305mm ($26.13) to 356mm ($52.69) from elraco but you do get it in 1 piece.
The 0.5m x 305 mm strip which will do that size disc in 2 pieces is $26 from the Sandpaper Man.

The Glue.
Hi Daryll,
Not sure if you have " Blackwoods " there but that was the last place I got some from.
If, say you had 3 different Disc's, with this " Disc Cement " you can join 2 together, glue to glue, & the other one goes on the Allum.Sanding Disc. 9 - 12 in. or what ever.
So when you want to change grits, you just pull them apart, join the 2 you don't want, & the other goes on the Sander.
Seems like I'm trying to tell you how to suck eggs.
Still is the way to go.Regards,
issatree.

Got a 12 inch disc sander on my small lathe with the velcro backed discs, they are satisfactory but not fantastic. Because of the velcro backing the surface of the sanding disc is somewhat flexible and thus it has certain downfalls.
On my stand alone 24 inch disc sander I glue the cloth backed discs on with good old PVA glue. It's much cheaper than contact cement, doesn't stink and to remove the old disc just soak it in water overnight.
You do have to clamp the disc on when you glue it, with a suitable flat surface.

gms002a,
I beg to differ......14" disc is 356mm diameter not 365mm
Area of 356mm disc is 1118cm2
Area of Rectangle is 1525cm2
As shown below, the top section of the disc can be obtained from the RHS of the rectangular piece....can squeeze it in at same orientation or still works if direction of hook & loop is in different orientation.

Skot.
1. We're both wrong. The area of the 14" disc is 993.146659031094 sq cm. I was probably drunk writing this.
(PI= 3.14159265358979 , inch = 25.5 mm, R = 7" = 17.78 cm)
2. You're absolutely right that the disc could be made of 2 pieces. I'd just never do it like that, but that's me.
