    Default Truck inspired by Crowie

    Hi,

I watched with interest a build by Crowie. It was a Peterbilt semi that was made with different timbers.

I thought I would attempt to make a truck based on Crowie's design using timbers that I have tried to source locally.

Most of the timbers were sourced within 300kms of Charleville. The engine compartment is made from beefwood. The cab, diesel tanks and wheel arches are made from Tallowwood. The sleeper is made from 5 pieces Blackwood from Emerald Wood Workers.

I still have to make a trailer. Here are some photos so far.

    Thanks for looking.

    Todd

    Top job mate.
Looks fantastic with the timbers you've used.
Can't wait to see the trailer.

    Cheers

Coming along very nicely. Just like Crowie's, the timber variations add to the effect.
Where did you source your wheels?

Your "Super T" with sleeper is looking good Todd... ..
I'm pleased to have encouraged and inspired you but also little embarrassed to gain such accolades ......
Keep the photos coming with the build notes and maybe some dimensions too please.
    Cheers, crowie

    Crowie,

What scale did you use? Dimensions of prime mover are 460mm long, 180mm wide and 200mm high. Am thinking the trailer will need to be approx 1000mm with 4 sets of wheels. What do you reckon?

G'day Todd, I used the basic info off the Wood Magazine Construction Series "prime mover & trailer" then scaling the cabin and sleeper off a real Peterbilt photo. My "prime mover" is 420mm long x 153mm wide x 153mm high to the roof of the sleeper with 2" American Oak shop bought treaded wheels.
The trailer is 780mm long overall and 165mm wide with a tri-alxe and the same wheels as the prime mover.
Yours being slightly larger would cope with the long trailer and the quad-axle setup, though I'd suggest 2 sets of 2 with the little wide spacing on the centre axles, even consider using 1.5" wheels....
I hope that's helpful Todd, Cheers, Peter

Coming together Todd, BUT must agree that 40deg"C" [105deg"F"] is way too to working in the shed....cheers, crowie

PS - We had that yesterday and are expecting 42 tomorrow....
rain forecast for late next week; we can only hope & pray that it reaches the whole of NSW & Queensland....

    Hi,

Made the trailer today. 860mm long. With the prime mover attached the whole rig is 1200mm. Starting to look like a truck.
