Tidied up Hercus 9A imperial plain bearing model
Here are just a few pics of my progress fixing up the lathe. The grey lathe is what it looked like at the start.

I think the large amounts of blue with the small appearances by red make a good combination.

New gearbox plate
Jrumbel,
Well done, all you need now is a new gearbox plate from Mal, and a bit of a polish of the bright work.

What paint & primer etc did you use? Looks a. Bit like waldown blue, do you have any waldown equipment to compare to?
anyway nice job, good to see older equipment getting some love.…..Live a Quiet Life & Work with your Hands

I used filler primer enamel, with teal blue enamel over the top....not a painter in any sense really...but I liked the colour as it reminded me of an old hk holden my father had when I was a kid. I used degreaser (about 10 billion litres of the stuff) then paint stripper, then more degreaser, then wax and grease remover, then enamel primer (after masking it off), then the teal blue enamel over the top. Oh....and did I mention sanding....lol
Seems to be holding up quite well so far. I put a few little scratches in it here and there during re-assembly. Stripped it all back and replaced felts, replaced the half nut, added the new toolpost, new 240v single phase motor, new motor belt.
Took a little while to work out the kinks as I went, but I have it in great working condition now and am super keen to machine pretty much any piece of metal I see....people at work fear for the safety of all round metal objects.

it does actually...it had a few small issues such as 50 years of gunk clogging the worm screw, clogging the compound slide screw and cross slide screw, and missing felts. All fully functional now

Top job and one to be proud of. I would like to think mine will look as good, one day.
Good; Fast; Cheap. Pick any two.
