Today i fitted two of the short braces and clamped up left to dry.

Then it is back onto the draw with the track first of all I rounded over the edges to get rid of any sharp corners and then spent the day sticking all the bits and pieces down that I had previously painted. It is surprising what you can find to weigh down the bits while they dry

Tomorrow I should be able to get the first coat of varnish onto that part and also get the inner panels fitted to the main unit so the draw will have some where to sit.

Just coming along beautifully mate, a really great build so far.
I couldn't agree more about the planes.
If it wasn't made by Jacob Siegley before 1900 "It's little more than a paper weight"!
Oooow I'm gunna get in trouble for that one.
Cheers mate

In the first picture with the two No5 planes the one with the broken handle is a project to bring it back to working order the other cuts a treat I like to use hand tools when I can.
I like a nice swishing sound as the plane cuts nice fine shavings. It would be nice to be able to afford some of the more expensive ones.

Don't worry to much about price and age, the Record's are fine plane's not matter how old or cheap they maybe compared to others.
I was going to write that Siegley's just happen to be better than everything else.
But then I decided not to, or I'll have Peter up in arms again!
Keep up the great work mate.
Cheers

Have managed to make up the inner panels where the draw will slide but after spending a good part of the day in the shed I felt a bit tight in the chest area and decided to call it a day so I forgot to take any photo's. Normally I take loads of photo's as some may know when I do a build.
Managed to get some rest and took on an easier job which was to give the track draw a couple of coats of varnish I will take some photo's of that tomorrow as it is complete.
Now all I have to concentrate on is the main unit. which I need to get out of the way as I have a Mortar and pestle to turn and also a pen.
And I though I had finished all the jobs that needed doing before Christmas once I had completed this build

Well a bit of a jump in the photo department. All the panels are now fitted and all the cross members as well. The main unit now need a finish which is a straight varnish as it is to match one they already have(that one has a toy train on it)
The track is all varnished and I fitted some felt pads underneath so as not scratch anything it is out on.

Fantastic Derek
There's going to be hours of fun from this build.
Maybe you should look into taking up the post of Santa.
When and if the old fella ever pops his clogs.
Cheers mate

Have to agree Derek, this is a beaut project you've shared with use all....
The young one who receives it will surely have hours of fun and play, plus I suspect so will others for yeas to come...
Cheers, Peter

Thank you guys. Just an up date but with no photo's. The main unit has been finished with some varnish and I have wrapped the top, feel a bit stupid as when I wrapped it I cleaned up the mating surfaces and then mitred all the corners, stuck them all on and when dry did a test fit to the main part ooops did not fit about 1/16th too small. Not a problem will set up a router tomorrow and take that amount off.

Congratulations
Just reading the November edition of the English Woodturning magazine last night and came across this little gem.
