Default Low level toy/play table with racing track

OK I am guilty gov, for not posting anything to do with toys for a while as I have been involved in making Christmas presents and also doing some turning for friendly competitions on another forum. I have just finished the November challenge only Decembers to do. So here I am about to embark on another well not so much a toy but a low level play table complete with a race track for bangers( No not sausages).
Today all the wood was ordered and being delivered tomorrow. This is not going to be a long build so I will try and take some photo's as I go. I have a rough drawing to work from but it is not complete see below.

Things may get changed as I go if I feel I need to add to it.

"ROUGH DRAWING" I'd hate to see a good one mate.
    Looking forward to the build.

Well the day started great wood turned up at 9am and I have been cutting to rough lengths to make it easier to machine. Have had to stop as the heating engineer has turned up to repair a leak on the boiler, which we had to turn off and last night we had a bad frost so been sitting in the cold.

Picture of before and after. now all I need is to go back to the shed and machine it down to the correct dimensions before cutting to the correct length

Just a quick edit all the main struts have now been machined ready for cutting to length. Hopefully tomorrow i will get the panels cut to size

Wet and damp outside so no work today as I need to cut a 8' X 4' sheet down to size, so done some more to my rough sketch so you can see what the end table will look like.
The bottom draw is pulled out and will be placed on the top when needed as this one will have the track built on to it. The top will be left clear so it can be used to do things like drawing and the like.

Some more progress managed to get the MDF sheet cut to all the sizes required except two which I will do later in the build. Also managed to cut all the rebates for the top and draw units. So Now I have a pile of bits with just some cutting to length as I assemble the unit.

Well after all the cutting and preparation work to the wood, I have spent today doing a little more but this time some results on how the bottom draw will look. The main draw base has still got the wood surround to fit but that will be done once the base has had some colour added saves masking up. Also today cut the barrier for the track. I need to design a gate way and cut some of the barrier out to fit the gate. First picture is all the barrier parts and then a picture of how it will be fitted the space at the back is what will be a basic pit area with parking bays painted onto.

Thank you Keith. Weather not too bad but a little chilly this morning.

Have managed to get some more done today. Cut the legs to length and routed over the bottoms. Also glued these to the outer end panels first photo only shows one. Made a lift up barrier and got on with some of the painting of the track and stationary barriers

    End Panels

First coat on track and grass red and white barriers will be glued in the unpainted area, once all the painting is done I will fit the draw trim

    Derek,

A fair bit of intricate work there. Looks like it's coming ahead in leaps and bounds. Looking really good. (Glad the weather is on the improve)

    Take care.

Some more painting today. Tomorrow I will wrap the draw with the edging, I was hoping to do it today. The reason for doing the draw is that with other bits going on especially this Friday at least he can have that to play with on Christmas Day if time runs away with me. I have not yet glued the bits to the board will do that after the edging

Not much progress but I have managed to glue in the long cross members.

The first and second picture is of the main carcass with the sides glued to the back the front is only there to hold it square while it dries.

    2014-12-09 001 001.jpg2014-12-09 001 002.jpg

The next is a dry fit of all the cross braces after cutting them to size.

    2014-12-09 001 003.jpg

The last is the two long braces glued in place and the front panel now cut out ready for glueing. Sorry for the bad pictures but everything should become clearer in the next two or three days

    2014-12-09 001 004.jpg

Finally the draw unit with the track on has now got the wood surround glued and fitted ready for all the bits to be stuck down permanently

    2014-12-09 002 004.jpg

I know this build seems to be all over the place but it will all come together in the end and be made clear
