Default LMR 57 Lion (Titfield Thunderbolt)

    Hi All,

Well I am back. Doctors and Physio say I can't work on the patio tiling, so it is back to the shed.

In 1838 the 0-4-2 locomotive was built - designed for hauling freight. The locomotive was used in the 1953 comedy film - "Titfield Thunderbolt".

This will be a similar size build to the Trevithick 1804 locomotive "Peny-Darren" - approx 1/5 th original scale.

Have purchased some drawings from the UK, although not exactly what I wanted, I will be drawing up all my components as I go.

Looking forward to this build, after my accident it makes you appreciate being able to relax and get out and do things you really want to do.

I reckon this will take quite a while to complete. The starting point will be the drive wheel leaf springs.

    Regards

I will certainly be following your build. Glad you are able to get back and do something in the shed, just take it easy.

    Thanks Derek,

Cathie will be watching me with an "Eagle Eye" to make sure I don't do anything stupid in these early days. I am lucky to have her.

    Great to be back !!

    Hi all,

Good to be in the shed.

Made up a couple of main wheel leaf springs today. Cut the leaves using scroll saw. The springs are painted in "domino" to give the cast effect.

    Great stuff mate.
    Good to see it underway.

Could you get that beer can of yours in shoot for a couple of photo's.
So we get a better gauge of the scale your building it at from the outset.
I know it's around a fifth but a visual reference point is helpful.

    Cheers mate.

I've been a little slow to pick this one up but very glad to see you back in the shed Keith even with a watchful eye from your beloved Cathy. I agree with what was said about ensuring you take it easy as you enjoy getting back into the woodwork; though the time in the shed is great for the well being. Keep the photos & build notes coming, sir... Cheers, crowie

    Hi,

To show the scale of the loco, I have a photo of the location of the leaf spring above the drive wheel, and also a photo of the springs I have made beside a can of beer.

    Regards

Springs looking good. it seemed a strange place to start I would have thought the chassis would have been first. Mind you having to take it easy may dictate which bits are done first.

    Derek,

You are totally correct on both counts. I was going to start on the chasis, but thought I would get into it slowly with some repetitious leaf springs. On the Trevithick loco I started with the wheels. The springs allow me to get some "runs on the board" in a fairly short timeframe.
It is hard to work out where to start on a lengthy build. I hope you are well. Thanks for your feedback.

    Regards

    Keith

    Hi,

No work on the train over the weekend.

    Playing with a new toy.

Got my replacement ute after my crash.

Crowie, I thought you might like to see the Ford.

    Regards

    Keith
