Well now. Will you just look at this... another build and another motorcycle only this time its a rebuild and an overhaul.

I had some really good luck at the recyclers some nice person had thrown away quite a few lengths of KD.
Just the right stuff for making the engine stand.
I tried not to go overboard (Like I did with the Indian) and kept it to a pretty low and flat base.
There's good clearance all the way around which is great for having parts and tools handy while your working.



The metal section is a nice piece of recycling its one of the brackets I used for the Indian stand.
All I needed to do was modify it slightly.
I found it quite interesting that the Harley crankcase is the same length as the Indian is wide!.



I think this particular stand will get a lot of use, after the Harley is engine is finished the stand will be perfect for the Brough.

Back to it!.

In the picture below the red arrow marks the addition of the plate for the engine number.
I'll let the paint dry for awhile before impressing the number.
Doing it that way when I give the crankcase it's final coat of paint the number shouldn't fill up to much.

All the old gals I've seen (inc. mine) have had the crankcase painted, then the paint scraped off to bare metal over the stamp so the coppers at the rego office can read the damned thing. (Usually at the rego office,)

Or aren't going for that level of authenticity?

Seriously though, here's to pulling up a chair to see if you can pull this "renovation" off as well as you did the Indian!

Your right Red the tools are a little on the shiny side, probably not used enough I'd imagine!.
The Camera is a No.4 Century Grand Studio made in around 1905 in Rochester, New York.

I found a couple of really good reference photos of a 1920 Harley.





Great looking bike although I'll add a few bits and pieces to it like a speedo.



I had a good look at the timing cover I'd made back in the day, and noticed that I'd drilled through the edge with the screw holes
in a couple of spots.
So I've separated the base from the cover and I'm making a replacement.
I think I must have originally made the part and then drilled the holes, this time I'll do it the other way around (Much More Bettera!).

Good one Trev, it would be a shame to let this old girl fall into disrepair, should look awesome next to the Indian.
On the photo of the 1920 bike is that just a horn below the headlight or a siren?
Love the new paint colour, the original build colours look a bit bland to me, as in not enough contrast.

Was expecting to be looking at the Brough by now but this is good, and the Brough is yet to come, SWEET!!

I think those screwdrivers look like great props in the photos. They look like they almost match the era instead of plastic handles.

Yes Keith I will have white tyres on the Harley.
Like you I think they look fantastic, and standing next to the Indian they will make a great contrast.

When I dragged the Harley out of shed I'd pretty much forgotten the state she was in.
I'm enjoying making things right again!.
It is a horn under the headlight, although I see what you mean it does look like it could be a siren.
I'm much happier with the colour as well this time around, the original was drab to say the least.
I started working on the Harley as a bit of a time filler while waiting to find reference material on the Brough.
But now that I've started I think it would be a shame not to work right through and finish the job off.

Not just props I use them all the time.
I like the old stuff!.
Thanks for the emotive it's just what I was looking for.


I worked on the timing cover for quite awhile, I've replaced the base and reshaped the top of it.
I think it looks a lot better now.
I should have it finished by the end of the day.
I'll give it a black top coat.



I even got the good old coke can out for CAG so that there's no confusion as to scale.
I'll be able to cut a gasket for it this morning, my son just got a new box of breakfast cereal.



I've also block sanded the front cylinder to get all of the fins the same.
Can't believe I didn't do that in the first place, but better late than never!.

I'll be able to cut a gasket for it this morning, my son just got a new box of breakfast cereal.

Must be tricky getting them to all stick together and then flattening them enough to make the gasket

When you're my size, everything looks smaller in scale. That's why I only look at myself in the side mirrors of the car. Makes it a bit awkward when shaving in the nuddy of a morning but the neighbours have gotten used to me!!!

Although you do know that dried Weetbix is technically a building aggregate.

Today I finished the timing cover and gave it a coat of gloss black.
It's a heck of a change from the way I originally had it.
I really enjoy using gloss black as specially when it's so dark that absorbs light.
I wont be touching it for a few days!.





I also gave the crankcase a top coat and added the engine number.
Just need to wait for it to dry.

Oh I nearly forgot I made a gasket out of Corn Flakes as well!.

Hey Trev,
You saw my old Falcon and how the beautiful maroon paint work is starting to get somewhat tired as it approaches its 15th year.... Could I drop down for a few days for a touchup, on the paintwork, that is!!!
It'd have to stay maroon but with your talent in the paintwork department, should be a breeze..........
