Attention to detail is great.

Hopefully it's a little better nowadays than it was back when I made this faux pas!.

I've added the new parts and reworked the top of the cylinder head on the left to look more the way it should.
As you can see from the right cylinder head I was missing a heck of a lot.



I'll do the same to the right side and then work on bringing the rockers up to spec!

I've finished the modifications to both cylinder heads.
It's a big improvement on the way they where.



I also shortened the carburettor manifold to bring everything back more between the cylinders.
Down the track the petrol tank will need to be narrowed, and with the ram tube on the end of the carbie it would've protruded to far.



Working on the rockers tonight they'll be getting a major overhaul!.

I can't disagree with that Cowboy those "little things" in the detail make so much of a difference.
Although they where somewhat lacking in my work back when I first made the engine.

The engine looks so realistic - you think it would start ! Fantastic paintwork

Glad you like the paint work mate.
I put a fair bit of time into that side of things!.


The base of the first rocker is looking a lot better now.
I've raised it's height and modified the arms.
I also added a casting number.
I took a mould of some of numbers on my Dad's RACV gold card.



I'm very happy with the improvement in the detail and overall appearance of the cylinder head's.
Compared to the way the way they were when I started.



The five cent piece I used in this photo maybe faulty!.



It looks to be a little smaller than the last one.

Very clever about using a Credit Card as a casting mould. You really think outside the square. Great innovation. Makes your work so good. Well Done !!

Finished off the base to the other rocker today as well as refinishing the manifold from were I shortened it.
The carburettor is sitting much better between the cylinders now.





During the day I had one of those moments when I realised that I really didn't need a ball bearing for the cam on the carbie.
I just needed something that looked like it.
So I rounded off the end of a piece of bicycle spoke and put it into a small hole I drilled into the carbie.
Seems to do the trick.



I've started making the first of the rocker arms, there was no point in trying to work with the original ones.
They where in pretty bad shape.

Trevor, your attention to detail is outstanding sir...one is just gobsmacked every other day at your exploits...
And that 5c is getting a good workout...I hope you can find a place for it in the annals of history and time...

I have to agree with crowie about the details you are including in the engine.

I do believe that now that I know what those screws are really for, and how much detail is going into the rest of it, I'd be thinking about adding knobs or maybe thumb screws to those compression release holes in the heads.

Those are not for a 1920 engine, but they are the oldest ones my Harley lover friend could find. They belong on a 1937 engine but they will give you an idea of what they looked like as the engines did not change very much between the decades. They just got bigger and bigger bores.

Apparently Harley's original patent on them said that the rider pulled them open and once the engine started, then they closed automatically during the intake stroke of the piston.

Or maybe just leave the screws in place as some people just closed the holes and did not use the releases. I guess it all depended on how strong your kicking leg was....

I think in the end I'll find a way to build the 5 cent piece into the Harley after the engine is finished.
Seems fitting that it should become part of the bike.

I had a good look around last night and found this little beauty, if the tread was filled in I think it's pretty much spot on.
But of cause it goes without saying I could only find one.
It looks like it's probably from a set of callipers.



I'll keep hunting around to see it I can find one to match it!.

I spent most of the day working on the first of the rocker arms.
It took a heck of a long time to get the valve end the way I wonted it.



I worked the end of the arm into shape with a piece of 120 grade sandpaper rolled around a bicycle spoke.



I've still got the other end to do yet I'll get on it tonight.

Although it looks like from some pictures I've seen there's a small oiler on top of them.
So I'll need to add that when I get some more info.





I've started on the second arm hopefully it goes a little faster than the first.
