Bulldozer from the Wood Magazine "Construction Series" with a Peter built twist....of is that PETERBILT??

Well it's been way too long since I had some fun in the shed on toymaking, though I have had shed time doing repairs and KindyGym things....it's not quite the same as making a new toy and personalizing it...

December was mad with end of year things, then came Christmas & New Year, plus Tracey & I having some time in Brisbane visiting my mum time has just flown by.... [Crow Speak for were has summer gone]......

The other issue is "Handy" my little smurf helper took himself on a holiday and was MIA for a month, some sort of Smurf Convention and he even bought my a couple of photos from the dance night after the party time.....he told me that if I look hard, he's in one of the photos somewhere....

Anyways, here's the start..... took about four hours to cut all the pieces to size and ensure I was happy with the mix of timbers....

Today I spent time marking out and cutting to shape the blocks plus drilling the holes for the axle pegs....

PS - Oh, I've used an idea from Fozzy [Mike] with this project which will be revieled later down the build.....

I feel a bit like Handy that I have been absent without leave.

The build is looking good so far Peter. I think that the preparation is the longest bit sometimes.

Glad you have managed to get back into the shed for some toy making

Thank you one and all for the support & encouragement on this build.....

So far its been a slow progress but any shed time is just the best....

Handy is back on track and with minimal reprimand or hassle...

Some additions have already been made.....radiator, air cleaner & exhaust stack can been seen in the photos....
The radiator is a piece of merbau decking sliced on the bandsaw & edged with the groove cutoff's of cypress pine flooring...
The air cleaner is just a series of dowels cut to length & glued together...
The exhaust stack is 1/2" dowel which has been cut, doweled & glued together....
I'm trying to work out how to do a "ripper" for the back of the dozer....

I've cut and shaped a number of the pieces as the photos now show....

All the one's I looked at on real machinery & models are way to complicated for this sort of toy so would appreciate some suggestions & ideas, thank you....

Part of the reason for the slow progress is the scaffolding in the last photos, the builder [good friend] has brought our re-roofing & gutter job forward by 6 weeks due to another client mucking him around...
I'll loose access to the shed for week or 10 days next week...
This also means I can wash the eaves & repaint them while the scaffolding is up; much safer option...
All good, the roof needs to be done and it's good prep for the years ahead...

You got that right Trev.... But one has to be very game and or very silly to take on some of the hills around here...
Here are some photos of the Billy Cart the blokes were I used to work before the crash helped me build for my girls and now for the grandsons....don't want to go down my driveways as the roller bearing in the 200mm wheels really let it fly...cheers, Peter

Come on Trev, fair crack of the whip...
Handy's a woodworker and not into earth-moving especially with 6" on concrete on a base of sandstone rock....
Neither would my little bulldozer have much of a chance especially without a ripper on the back.....

I've managed some progress before I loose the shed....though yesterday I spent some 2 hours on my knees with a bucket, sugar soap, a broom and a hose washing the 22-23mtrs eaves off the scaffolding on the south side of the house.....no fun at all; next is starting the painting on that side....

Anyways, I did manage a about an hours in the shed after recovering then again today another 3 hours doing the finishing of the cabin cutouts followed by the blade parts and arms, slow jobs trying to get all the measuring and marking out done before the cutting and drilling.
