    Default Looking for quality screws

I'm fed up with lousy wood screws and wondering where everyone else gets theirs from? I'm in Melbourne.

    Thanks

I recently ordered some brass, slotted screws from classicfasteners.com.au .

That said, I was ordering them because I needed a screw which would look nice. I was using them to attach drawer knobs so they were, theoretically, going to be visible in the finished product. I can't really comment on their quality as far as durability or resistance to torque.... but they seem nice enough.

    Hope that helps.

Agree with the above 2 replies. Sachys Robertson screws and you will never use any other again - well almost anyway.
Been using them for the last 10 years.

I entirely agree with everyone regarding how good the Sachy Robertson screws are. I use them a lot where they won't look out of place on a particular furniture style.

However, they do look out of place if you're building (or restoring) an old style piece of furniture. For old style furniture, I always use slot head screws, either brass or steel depending on the situation.

I've been getting most of my wood screws and some other fasteners from Classic Boat Supplies (http://www.classic-boat-supplies.com...rews-nails.php). They have a wide variety of wood screws, in various metals, and in just about every screw driver head type you can name (including Sachy Robertson). They're also a great source of manganese bronze screws for use in outdoor furniture.

Classic Boats' fasteners are not cheap - but they are a hell of a lot better quality than your run of the mill wood screws that are stocked by most hardware stores and Big Box stores.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I've just ordered from Sachys Robertson so we'll see how we do. Just fine I'm tipping.

Can't comment on the Sachy screws, but the Hafele screws are excellent value. If you want to go higher end, try Wurth.
