Those two back saws (in the middle) - I bet they don't get used often

I had to think about that because you are about half right.

The Thos Turner on the left doesn't get much use, but the Simonds No.97 on the right gets used quite a bit (in fact I used it this morning before I read your post).

Then I realised, you can't see the small (half the width of the till), vertical door at the back on the right hand wall. Originally I placed it there so I could store my sharpening vice by sliding it in behind the hand saws, but I was using it so frequently it never got put back . Consequently it freed up the back wall for some back saws (four). There is some space for more (Planemaker please note .)

The Wilkie back saws are hanging vertically on the left and it requires two handsaws to be removed to access them: Not too much hassle.

I'm in the process of building my first till. Won't be anywhere as big as Paul's temporary one though

I'll take some piccys when I make more progress - this week as the lads are back at school Monday/Tuesday
I've milled the timber (old cedar door frames and started the dovetails)

I've got to finish it so I have somewhere safe to put the restored saws as I finish them
    Nick

My smart tills, when they get made , will only be 600mm wide (the temporary affair is 1200mm wide). The plan is for them to be modular so I can add easily. They will not be as sophisticated as your till as they are going to be made from recycled cypress pine wall boards (20mm thick) that I salvaged: Not CEDAR! Half your luck .

The only refinement is that I will be making a tambour for the front door. I purchased the appropriate router bit for the slats a while ago. So now I have all the materials. I just need the time .

modular is a good idea - build as you need

I decided that I'd better get the till made as a little back saw from that bad axe mob hit the floor - luckily no real damage
but it focused the mind on making a place for them

and Ian has reminded me that I really need to make some file handles ... and the list goes on
