Ship Scale Kit 1/100 Albatros Schooner by Occre.
Okay here's the last kit I have of the three, a small ship build. I am also doing on the Model ship world form, but you guys are a lot friendlier and less serious. This one looks a lot trickier than any of the others. Apart from the Internal hull everything else you build yourself and the last written instructs after you finish the hull are "do masts & rigging". ( Thats it. The rest is just ref pictures & knot diagrams.)
Anyway here goes.
Day one, cut out an sanded the false keel & bulk heads and glued them together.

Signed the ship internally with date & where from.( Apparently its the thing to do )
Glued on the Decking.

Thats it so far.

Still going but a bit slower
Hi Still here. Still pressing on.
Boat building is definately a skill of its own. There is little room for error, but with patience it comes together.
Its been three week since I started it at 3-4 hours per night so around 60 hours so far.

Finishing the stern decking, soaking for bend and applying waterways

Doing the first layer of planking. Each soaked in water for 1 hour, glued, nailed & shaped.

Added the keel

Commenced the Second layer ( Veneering )planking
DSC01728.jpgDSC01729.jpg
Its a slow process, but I go to play with the dremel to sand back the planks ( and an excuse to but some bits.)
The instructions are as I discovered a guid only and ypu have to work it out yourself. A few mistakes made but still learning
See you next time.
Off on holiday with my wife and dogs, as one of them has to have a cruciate Operation ( Ouch to the cost on that ) and then he will be caged up for 8 weeks.
I expect I will have to slow down more for that.

Good looking job Paul. My son gave me one of these ships a couple of years ago. I found the nailing of the planks quite testing. I didn't veneer over the top of them. I sanded then stained. The nails looked very effective. Problem I found with the kit was there was a lot of parts missing and had to machine up my own components (mainly out of aluminium) Schooner looks very good. Keep up the excellent work.
Regards
Keith

Back. Sort of.
Well its been over 100 hours since I commenced this little thing. Hmm. Based on he effort required to rig the masts & Sails I expect another 100 to finish. The parts are so small and even with a Mag glass my eyes hurt. Buts its fun. I'm hooked. I can see why people get drawn in. Its frustrating & mentally relaxing & very self satisfying when it comes together. ( Except when it goes wrong).
Really enjoying the working off the 1/1 plans bit now that the actual instructions & Photo manual has finished. More of a challenge but satisfying when it matches the plans exactly.
Anyway here's where I am up to.
Finished the second planking or as I call it the veneering. According to the instructions your supposed to use contact , but i found the PVA one strip by one approach better. Slower but more control and easy to clean up glue.

Finished all the ship deck fit out
DSC01767.jpgDSC01769.jpgDSC01771.jpgDSC01772.jpgDSC01773.jpg
Doing the masts & Fiddly pulleys/ blocks
DSC01760.jpgDSC01756.jpg
See you when they are done .
Not to anyone. NEVER do a 1/100 scale, bigger is better , the parts are stupidly small.
I scored a caldercraft model kit of the endeavour next. Bit thats not being done for a while. and is a lot bigger
