    Default Spinning Top

Well, because Dave made the life changing decision to get off the lathe and make a great model plane. I have decided to get on the lathe and make a spinning top for my 3 year old grandson. Hasn't seen it yet but spins very well. Used an old CD as my disc.

Spinning tops are not just for kids. I took one to the Surf club last night as part of a donation for the benefit night. Everyone had a spin and the squeals of delight from the blokes at the bar were funny.

Josh loves it !! (3YO grandson)

He even managed to pull the string and had the top spinning.

A mate wants me to make some for the school kids he teaches.

It's great - something that took an hour creates so much interest.

Will need a better lathe with a chuck before I can tackle the tractor I think Derek. Thanks will keep for the near future.

    Regards

    Keith

    Crowie,

As promised, I have drawn up the spinning top. You won't need a lathe. You will need some 8mm dowel, 25mm round pine (or whatever timber material you like), an old CD - possibly ABBA or Kylie (or a new one - they are so cheap) some string 550mm long. I glued the end to make it stiff to easily thread into the 3mm hole. I used 5 minute araldite to glue collars in position.

    Sketches attached

    Regards

    Keith
