Straightening out a compass saw blade
G'day.
I was given a compass saw the other day with a broken beech handle. The handle is no problem to fix (see previous post 'Minor gloat'), but the blade has a slight bend towards its tip.
The saw brand is, I think, Spear and Jackson. I stress that this is a slight bend, not a kink.
Two qu's ...
1/ Can it be corrected without destroying the blade? If so, how?
2/ As it is only a slight bend, will it affect the performance of a compass saw? I.e. is it worth bothering to fix it at all, or would it be fine as is?
Cheers,
GW

greetings GW
the slight curve might cause some grief but i'd give it a try.i did my saw doctor aprentaship with S&J & if your saw is circa pre 1973 the steel used is top quality shefield 'mermaid' specialy milled . after this time [mid 70's] terrible things happened & they started buying from all over to cut costs and quality control lost out to the gods of profit .if there is a saw doctor near you im sure he would hammer it strait in about 45 seconds for you. good luck...gordo.

Thanks, Gordo, for the tip. I'm not sure if it's pre-1970's or not; it's a little hard to tell. It's definitely newer than 100 years, and older than 20!
