Parliament is sitting....
Last year we made a bunch of simple ladybirds for the Childrens Hospital using a design that had a simple body and two wings that opened to reveal a cavity.
Here is a picture of a few that were made to this design.
LADYBIRDS.jpg
I have modified the design a little and have come up with some variations on different owls, some that lay down and some that stand on their own feet. The local woodworking club donated a bunch of these to the Childrens Hospital and the kids love them. They are delivered unpainted as they get the kids to paint them in whatever colours they choose. This is a picture of the unpainted owls ready for delivery.

I have also made a few where I have finished them with an oil finish and have used various veneers to enhance the wings. These finished ones will be for the local whippersnappers and grandkids and even a couple of adults have put their hand up!

Very cool Ruddy. I saw some photos of the donated ones in your club newsletter that was sent to me a little while back. I really like the embellishments you have done to your own collection which makes them stand out from the crowd.
Do you have any plans for them which you could share? Would love to have a go at some to give away.Dallas

Hi Kev,
Glad you liked the owls. I got the eyes from Spotlight in their craft section. They have a fair range of eyes for teddy bears and toys. You can also get them from Lincraft so I suspect they would be available on line......

They are simple to make and the kids love them......especially the ones with the very big eyes. I have made a few where they are wearing glasses...And my head I'd be a scratchin'

Hi Christos,
The outside shape was cut on a bandsaw using a 3 mm wide blade and then sanded with a bobbin sander.
A 3mm roundover bit was used to smooth all the edges. And my head I'd be a scratchin'
