newb asking for help with Stanley 78 hand plane.
Hey all,
1st got to say wicked site , loving all the info that is available.
My Dad recently passed away and I received all his tools as my inheritance.
In amongst the mass of tools that I have so far gone through I found a really
Nice rebate plane , its a Stanley 78 and looks to be in pretty good nick unfortunately
it is missing the fence , depth adjustment and the little 3 pronged cutter that sits
Just below the depth adjuster.
I was wondering if someone could provide some info on where I can get spare parts
for it? as I cant seem to find any where and I would really like to get it back to it's former
Glory.
Let me know if anyone can help.
Cheers

Hi Coollamon, & welcome to the madhouse.
A 78 without a fence and depth stop is, unfortunately, a very common thing! Missing the nicker is a bit less so, though they are so infrequently used they are often rusted in & very hard to free up. There are several places where you might pick up spare parts. A few that come to mind immediately:
Jim Davey used to carry spare parts - worth an email to ask. You could also try the Tool Exchange.
Also try an ad in the marketplace here, in the 'wanted' section - you may strike gold.
Cheers,IW

Well I have access to laser cutting, so I used a cold Shaw blade to get blades for my Stanley No. 78 Duplex Rebate Plane, as you can see I have plenty, if you need one let me know.

You can find spare part kits on eBay but you could probably find another 2nd hand plane to scavenge the parts for less.
You could try emailing Hans Brunner. He often has spare parts. http://www.hansbrunnertools.com

Hi,similar story with mine, inherited from my grandfather, also missing a few parts.
Even if I had them I wouldn't use it,I just remember the history of it and where it came from and that's the important thing.
