There's a fine line between mistake avoidance for the experienced and analysis paralysis for the less experienced.
I made a mistake today. I put a plane in the sun so that it would be a little warmer and the hide glue joint a little harder due to the warmth. It was there for one hour. It's about 75 degrees here, so that means (75-32)*5/9 = about 24 degrees in your terms. Not exactly hot, but it's beech and beech likes very little change.
It checked at the front of the mortise as well as the back. In one hour. Lightly, but pretty hard to look at!
I'm a little disgusted by it, but I have found that eschewing the fear of mistakes has made me more confident and less. I got most of the checking closed, and learned that next time I want to put a plane in the sun to allow better curing, I'll slather the end grain with linseed oil first.

I guess perspective is always about where you're coming from. When I started, I wanted to not make anything unless the first version was perfect, and I wanted someone else to tell me how to do it so that I couldn't make any mistakes. It's hard for us to own much of our own knowledge if some of it doesn't come from our own mistakes. I've seen the flip side, though,....those who aren't afraid to make the same mistake over and over and over.
(I like that you're digging up interesting blogs. I'm not very good at following blogs in general, but find them interesting for sure - just never seems too long for the same one).
