Here's some photos of my bow saw. Blade is 8 TPI and 14" long.

I'll be needing some new blades also.

    Regards

    Pete.

Was having a coffee break in the shed between painting spells, and the bowsaw caught my eye, and I remembered this post, and the curiosity grew & grew....

So I pulled the beam out, marked out the end centres and clamped it flat on my bench. My "long" 6mm drill only just reached halfway, but by lining up carefully, I managed to get the holes to meet fairly closely. Then I fished out a bit of 1/4" brass rod & made a dodgy boring tool, which actually worked, & cleaned a pretty straight hole right through. Here is the end hole (you can see I didn't have much room for error!): Beam hole.jpg

A ~5mm wide blade wrapped in a bit of rust-inhibiting paper fits comfortably - there's room for one or two more if I get round to making them. Here's the modified beam & the 'boring bar' I used to straighten the hole. You can see the twisted ends of the paper sticking out: drills.jpg

Saw reassembled, blade nicely stowed, and only you & I know it's there: reassembled.jpg

Thanks for finding that idea, HR.....

    Cheers,
    IW

    Well done!
It is always good when you can drill from both sides.
No one will ever know if it wasn't straight!
    Looks like a new standard!
