Moonin again

Being as we have just had a moon eclipse I have managed to get back in my workshop to carry on with my own moon phase again..



But it isn't just a plain bit and I thought about time. So, time it was



The base, upright, pins and clock body are ash and the moon is oak. It was a right awd game to get it centred but I like it..

Before the clock I made something totally different and quite practicle. I haven't made one for ages. The last one was for the cousin of SWMBO



When it's shut the reals are really safe, but when you open it up they are really easy to real off, really

I must say this is quite an impressive clock. I am thinking that the half moon was off centered turned.

Like the idea of the cotton reels storage.

That's correct. The blank was mounted on a screw chuck and turned to round and shaped. Then mounted on a second hole drilled about 1/2" or so from the centre and the inner of the moon turned to slightly less than 1/2 way through. I drilled a small hole just inside the inner face of the moon to give me an idea where it was and the the blank was reversed on the screw and the other face turned to slightly less than 1/2 way. It was cut out on my band saw and sanded to shape on my Carrol drum sander in my bench drill. As long as you are careful and ensure that both sides of the inner face are equal it isn't too difficult to do and I think that it's very effective..

I have done several different things on the same principle and like the challenge of getting it right..
