Cannot fit Carbatec jointer guard
I have a Carbatec 8" jointer, CTJ-350X and after making the tables coplanar today, fitted the guard but it was not spring loaded, and does not return to the safety position after a piece of timber is surfaced.
I have attached some pics of the guard.
Can anyone please advise on how I can properly fit this guard?regards,

I'm guessing here but, back the screw/screws of that hold the guard in place.
Place an appropriate allen key into the top of the guard spring pivot
turn anti-clockwise until enough tension is on the guard
While holding in this position, tighten the guard retaining screws.
There is a flat on the pivot so try to line that up with the screws before tightening
EDIT: After a closer look at the photos, I think the horizontal tag on the spring has come out of the indent in the guard.
Back the top allen screw off slightly. Use long nose pliers to wrestle the tag back into the indent and tighten the allen screw so it can't come out again.
Fit the guard with the flat against the retaining screws.
Probably easier to do than try to explain.
Let us know how you go.Those were the droids I was looking for.

You need to make sure that the grub screw seats against the machined flat surface.
Slide the fence back as far as it will go, fit an Allen key to the bolt on the pivot to twist it so that the grub screws against the machined flat.Cheers

Well spotted NCArcher, that spring had come out of the indent when I was fiddling around. It was the indent shown in Photo #2 above
So I then completely unscrewed the pivot shaft on the base of the guard by using an Allen key in the screw at the top of the guard ( Photo #1 above), and the spring was easily turned and dropped into the indent, then held in position while I re-tighted the pivot shaft. Put it back on the jointer bed, with the flat bottom part of the pivot shaft tightened with the grub screw.
Ends up that there was a bit too much tension on the spring, as the guard was pushing strongly against the fence. The trick was to hold the large round black spring tensioner on the top of the guard with a set of mulit-grips ( Photo #1) , very slightly loosen the screw on the top of the guard with an Allen key ( Photo 1), then with the multi-grips very slightly rotate the round tensioner anti-clockwise to ease the spring tension, and then tighten the screw back up.
Many thanks for your help, I was really stumpedregards,
