    Love them all Undy.
Insightful design on the letter opener.

I have seen so many attempts to design one and most, while showing good woodworking skills, are just plain boring.
They may be suitable for local markets but nothing more IMHO.

I would love to have this (or any of the items) on display at my place.

    Cheers and thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the feedback folks..always appreciated..
..occasionally if I'm happy with a piece I'll make a mold and try and reproduce them in different materials..the pics are of the bird in wood, ceramic and bronze..

Ta Nanigai..I'd like to be able figure out a way to make these efficiently but the hollow is too fiddly and time consuming to make at a reasonable price

    Undy',
One day when you have a bit of time OR, you are doing it again, would you be able to show us how you make the mould and then create ceramic and bronze pieces? I am totally enthralled by the replication of that little bird.

    Un-functional is cool.
Sorry. No, I haven't. I was referring specifically to the letter opener. I have lots of "unfunctional" stuff around my house. Paintings, pot plants, sculptures, figurines. They are lovingly made and a joy to behold and they don't have functional names. The object in question is lovingly made and a joy to behold and it has a functional name: "letter opener". I was reflecting on the fact that these objects are not used anymore because letters, at least ones that you care about enough to use a letter opener on are pretty rare these days. [emoji12]

..sure..next mould I make of a carving I'll take some pics and post...it's not difficult, it's just a bit of a process ...
here's a pic of the first stage...establishing separation lines.. the bird is divided into two parts and one half is covered in plasticene..(those holes and hollows are to key in the top part of the mould)

I just rip the ends off these nasssty items and throw the remainsbof the envelope in the bin immediately, and the senders don't want to send them anymore either... Apologies for the digression. They are beautiful carvings all...
