    Hi all,
need to find the most accurate compound mitre saw available- presuming money was no object- what would you buy and why? I need to replace my old one which is suffering from inaccuracies(?) and I am tired of shimmimg the fence.
    thanks in advance

Yep. Model LS1013. At the moment the industry standard. They used to be anything up to $1150 bucks, you will find them down to around $800 if you shop around, competition from other brands have made them a bit more reasonably priced.

How accurate and quiet do they tend to be and why do you like them so much?

If you want quiet then the cordless makita ms is the pick. Depends on what you are cutting though.

Noise - Typical SCMS, fairly noisy but quieter than some.
Accuracy - take the trouble to set it up from the start = +++
Why Like - Reliable repeatable accuracy. Have seen some of the clones die a horrible death, gearboxes in particular.

    Thumbs up Quite SCMS

Have a listen to a belt drive Hitachi before you spend your money.

I'm with Boban, I don't have a SCMS but all the other Makita gear, saws, routers, drills etc I would never buy again because to date I have yet to kill anything. Which is more than can be said for some other pieces of gear long departed to the powered tool shed in the sky.

    Default Accuracy

    Rosethorn

My brother in law has a Hitachi SCMS and it would have done ten years work now, a very acurate machine with repeated setup being the same all the time, and it is as quite as a church mouse almost. I have another brand SCMS which is unusable without earmuffs and can be heard two blocks away, really a screaming piece of equipment.

As stated before try before you buy but a belt drive removes the gear noise common with most SCMS and if you buy quality you will not regret it. Find a friend who has one and try it out before you buy. I recon the one that I have would get banned for noise on a commercial work site.

    Regards Mike.

I have a Makita and it is very accurate and has a very smooth action compared to other SCMS. It is noisy though.
