An Arcade Machine...Work in progress
Something a little different from the fine woodwork things here. I thought I would try my hand at making a video arcade machine - like the ones we used to play when we were kids...reminissing over a few beers with friends thinking about playing frogger and stuff did it I think. It's pretty much MDF, glue and screws which makes it in the realm of a lifestyle show but thought you might be interested. I've just started making the basic shell at the moment, over the coming weeks we should see an arcade machine come of all this. The photos are of the marking and cutting of the outside pannels for the carcus, note the custom jig for the setting of the panel depths - took me all of 2 seconds to make it

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

There seems to be a common theme through your photos. Must be thirsty work . Look forward to seeing the finsihed project.

If he gets it without working for it; he's a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a life time of hard work, people call him a fool who never got anything out of life."

Showing my age I know, I do remember a very basic tennis game showing up in the late '70's, then space invaders or something, but had passed being interested by then. Can you make a real pinball machine? They were real arcade games!!
Anyway it looks like a fun project!Andy Mac

Hey Martink, keep us updated on progress!
I am about to start a MAME driving cockpit project supposedly for my son (well he thinks it's for him anyway). Got all the hardware sorted and MAME running nicely in addition to a few newer driving games (Gotta have some V8 Supercar action at Bathurst if I'm going to the effort of building a driving cabinet)
Just waiting on my brother in law to deliver the promised old racing seat he's gfot in his shed.
I'll post pics when its gets underway.
Gotta love MAME!
Cheers,

G'day,
Hey can anyone remember the way to get the enemy not to shoot at you in Galaga? Once I learned that well...
The best games were: After Burner, Mad Dog McGraw, Midway and Galaga. Spent tonnes of money on them. Mad Dog I could finish with one coin, same too with After Burner.
Martink, could you let us in on where you got the bits n pieces and how you rigged up the controls? I think you've really started something here!

Juke box
I have built old PCs up to be juke boxes before, but have never though about building a cabinet for them. Normally they are made as unobtrusive as possible.
That could be a really fun project.Specializing in O positive timber stains

If you don't have Space Invaders, Galaga or 1942 on it then it just wont be right.
DanIs there anything easier done than said?- Stacky. The bottom pub, Cobram.

100% agree. I said Midway in an earlier post, I meant 1942 - top game.
Next we'll be visiting the likes of Sturdee or Wood Borer to play their MAME games. What a great idea!

Some progress shots
OK, it's been a while but some progress on the arcade cabinet has been done. I am very fortunate that we have good neigbours as I employed Ronald's help in getting the other side on the cabinet.
Next on the list is the fitting/checking of the coin door and wheels/feet for the bottom After that is the control panels for the joysticks/push buttons/track ball and the monitor setup! So much to do!
