    Default Mitre Sled

I am in the process of building a few sleds for my Table Saw. I've looked at a few Mitre sled designs and have a question. Does it matter whether the apex of the triangle I build to accept the mitre points towards the blade or towards me? I've seen both designs and was wondering if there are any benifits to having it one way or the other? To me it doesn't seem to matter, but then I wouldn't be posting this if I knew the answer. Any help?

    Mjarmenta,

I think it is far safer and more accurate to have the point pointing towards the saw, so that the saw blade is tending to push the workpiece against the sled. Otherwise you would be relying entirely on your hold-down device to hold the workpiece securely.

Very Nice, and simple. That reason alone sounds like a good one. I'll post a pic when I'm done. Thanks.

Here's the Preliminary Plan for the Mitre Sled I am going to build in a few weeks. Any comments beforehand would be welcome. Most of the time I will use the sled to cut 45 Deg. Mitres only. When cutting 45's I wont use the adjustable arms on the sled. The sliding fences will help me to hold the workpiece in place and I can turn the sliding fence around if I am doing complicated picture frames, the fence on the other side is 4" high. Anyway, feel free to share.
