Default The New 1hp Carbatec 14" Heavy Duty Bandsaw ???

Has anyone passed their eye over the new Carbatec Heavy Duty 14" bandsaw?

It has just arrived in the Sydney store and is now on their website ... it has a 1hp motor and a cutting depth of 200mm, plus 'professional' rip fence, ball bearing blade guides and 4" dust chute.

Any comments or reflections would be welcome.

    Cheers,

    Zoot Esq.

I've only seen the pics on their web site. 1 hp motor = very nice.

It appears to have a welded frame, so I'd take a close look at the one they are going to sell you - it will be very hard to fix if it was welded up badly or if some drongo has dropped it from a great height & bent/twisted the frame (OK if they did the same thing to my cast frame saw it would be broken into bits). Also being a welded frame saw, you can't get an extension to let you re-saw 300mm planks - 200mm or a bit less and that's it.

I was looking really hard at one of the slightly larger 'CE' welded frame bandsaws when I was buying - 1.5 hp motor, 300mm+ re-saw etc. Just one problem - I couldn't get it into the garage under the roller door:eek: - I ended up with a 14" Delta with OEM extension & an Iturra spring.

Thanks for that info. I looked at it in the Sydney showroom and it looked good, but I did not appreciate the difference in frame manufacture. The unit is evidently made in Taiwan, at least I think that's what they said, but it is made by the same company that makes their 6" Jointer ... I have that jointer and am very happy with its design and workmanship. Whether it was salesmanship or something, but the people at Carbatec seemed genuinely impressed with the quality and features of the machine and were waiting on additional stock arriving.

I will have a more thorough inspection and ask some intelligent questions about the frame, rather than "Does it come in other colours!!".

    Cheers,

    Zoot
