Toy Box from Scraps

Recently completed the imaged toy box for one grandson. Made from leftover E Forestiana, no atempt made to fill cracks and blemishes. Figure is rathe wild because I was able to use pieces that I could not use in " A Serious Piece".
probably of interest are the lid stays. They hold top open and you have to push the top to close, then it stays were its put! Great for preserving kiddies pinkies. Used a piano hinge for the same reason..
FInish is just oil and wax, all edible.

Nice work on the box, where did you get your stays from. I have used something similar in a box once but haven't found a supplier for the product since. On a separate note, what did you use for your background in the photos?

Corbs, both easy questions!
The stays came from Rockler in the US. Just used thier web site. Come in three different strengths, quite cheap (postage was more than the stays!)
Background was an old piece of carpet with a smooth drape at the transition of wall to floor. Works well I think!

Will keep Rockler in mind if I have to make some more boxes. The carpet works well as a backdrop, I thought the first photo was edited until I saw the others.

Seriously nice toybox, Jacko; the kids will be allowed to leave that one out in the loungeroom! When they are older they'll fight over who gets to keep it.

How expensive is shipping from Rockler? I have seen TONS of stuff on their site I would love to buy bit I always figured that the shipping to Oz would kill me.

The answer generally is Yes the postage will kill you.

Back when the US dollar was around the 48c it was worthwhile but not now that we are so close.

For small stuff it is okay but expect up to 6 weeks or more surface mail.
