Default (WIP) Quilted Maple & Redgum bedside cabinets

Well here goes another project, hopefully this one wont take 6+ months to complete .

Pretty early on in conception here, but I couldn't resist posting a pic of this brilliant timber.

I am making two matching bedside cabinets from the piece of redgum I bought a while back which was a bit pricey..
    (pic1)

Each cabinet will consist of 2 drawers, an open space and a 10mm glass top. The four tapered legs will be solid redgum with some black redgum inlay, and the rest being Rock Maple and Quilted Big Leaf Maple veneers.

The design is my own, derived simply from function, form and just trying to best present the beauty that nature has already provided (not that you can see much of the design yet )

Wow, that timber has some figure. Look forward to the finished product.

The redgum and the maple both have spectacular figure.

Is it too much to incorporate both kinds of figure? Will they compete with each other when presented so closely in the one piece? Just a thought.

And yet another use for Ubeaut products: spacer blocks!

Yes you have a point there.
I have yet to decide the layout of the quilted maple(the block in pic was just placed there for me to get a visual feel).

The quilted veneer will most likely be just some feature panels in the drawer fronts

The redgum is worth what you paid given the figure for the entire length. Your pieces will look excellent when you hit them with the first coat of oil.
    P.S. That maple is awesome.

I have to agree with ZW. This timber is spectacular. I think the both the maple and the redgum should be the feature of individual pieces.

Look forward to pics as you progress on this one, Matrix.

I'd be too frightened to touch that wood - just beautiful.

I'm sure you will do it justice.

    Thumbs up

    Martrix,
What can I say that hasn't been, and don't have the Smilie for....unbelievable figured timbers! And the design looks sleek. Like an animal somehow. I'm wondering what the inlay will do, tie it all in or tone it down?
Looking forward to your progress shots
