Gluing Redgum

Hi all,
I am looking a gluing up a redgum sleeper to turn into a platter. What is the best glue to hold it together and is strong. I don't want any movement and it must also be clear.

Here's a little tale for you Stinky.

Many years ago I used to teach a weekly woodturning and carving class to the crims at Castlemaine gaol (jail to the yanks). During one of these classes I saw first hand the consequences of a redgum bowl blank delaminating. Therefore the best piece of advice I can give you is DON'T DO IT!

It happened when a crim convinced the workshop screw that he was allowed to turn a bowl from a laminated blank which he had put on the lathe whilst I was not in attendance. I had repeatedly told him it was a no-no and very dangerous. I had slated the blank for destruction with a couple of sharp wacks from a hammer to show just how dangerous it really was, but was called away to the office before it could be done.

When I returned from the office he was laying on the floor unconscious, covered in blood with an eyeball sitting on his cheek. He was air-lifted to St Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne for emergency treatment

EPILOGUE
The next week when I went in for the class I was met by one of the crims who said. "Have you heard the bad news about Blogs?" (not really his name)

"No..... " I said, thinking that he had maybe died or something. "What???"

"The bastard is still alive...."

The result: Unconsciousness cracked skull broken jaw and cheek bone, near loss of an eye, severe concussion, 12 broken or cracked bones in the hands. A vital lesson learned the hard way and it couldn't have happened to a more deserving piece of child molesting, excrement.

I was just hoping that it would be a cheap way to turn attractive platters as a sleeper only costs around $10.

Ok with that in mind, disregarding your dislike for redgum, would it be ok to turn small bowls out of the sleeper, ie: not laminating together just the width of the cut board?

Most sleepers are full of checking and because of that they are a bit dangerous, likely fly apart, and mostly unattractive. See if you can find some old fence posts or house stumps. Usually much better. Fire wood is another good source of redgum and other eucy's like box, etc.
