Sourcing steel hoops for Japanese chisels

Hi all.

Does anyone know where I could source spare ferrules / steel hoops for Japanese chisels?

With most chisels I make my own ferrules out of brass or copper, but these are different, being forged and shaped -- as you would know.

Does anyone know where they are available?

Somewhere - online or in a mag - I read one solution - just cut a short ring off a piece of gal water pipe, then grind the gal off & give it a nice rounded exterior on a linisher or belt sander in a clamp.

Don't wear gloves - skin grows back but a pretzelized finger is stuffed forever.

I went to my steel supplier for a 6ft piece of 3/4 gal and they wanted me to by a 6m length. Bloody sharks.

Oh, I see you are in Sydney, so that doesn't help you now does it?

Ifin you can't find something else to fit the bill, let me know. Small and cheap, just need to know the size.

Set up a small forge ,you'l be able to make all kind of stuff.
