Any interest in Red Gum.
Hello.
I haven't put this in the buy, sell, etc forum because it's only hypothetical at this stage.
I was talking to one of the millers on the river who has a yard full of RRG. He cuts sleepers for the most part but has a yard full of 4" X 4" X about 3m lengths. He also has a fair bit of 6" X 1 1/2" and 8" X 2". The 4 X 4's were cut for house stumps and were surplus when concrete stumps became the norm. The stuff is very seasoned (up to 40 yrs). Some has rotted but there is a lot of very good quality timber.
He also has some big section stuff, sleepers (12X5) that didn't make the grade, that have also been in the yard for a long time. Most of these end up being cut up for paddle steamer fuel.
I have spoken to him about buying small quantities for personal use, but I thought I might see what interest there is here.
If there is enough interest, I will approach him with a view to doing a deal.
At this stage I reckon he'll be looking for about $1000 - $1200 a cube, which seems pretty cheap to me.
So come on you lot. Let me know.
Dan

Interested, but what are the minimum quantities and what about delivery?
-

There will be no minimum and pick up and delivery has yet to be sorted. I was thinking that if there was enough interest, I could hire a 4t and deliver myself. There would be a cost incurred of course.
I have yet to nut out any real details on this, I was seeing what sort of interest there is before speaking to the guy. Once I have some idea of the interest level, I will approach him and sort out the particulars. If I have a bit of interest I may be able to get a better price, even though the one stated seems good to me.

A slab would get me a 1/4 of the way there.

Dan,
Please keep me posted. I'd be interested - but it will depend upon finances at the time.

Hi Dan,
I'm also interested but in small quantities as well (quarter cube or so). Perhaps a consolidated load to Melbourne could be arranged?
Cheers,

Hi Dan,
I'd be interested in the 6x 1 1/2" (say about 40m). That's about 1/4 m3

I'll keep an eye on this thread, and may be interested in some 6 x 1.5 and 4x4. I'm just around the corner from Auld so a consolidated delivery may be possible.
Justin.
