Notice how the pine grain always runs perpendicular to the inserted object... pine splits along the grain real easy and glues back up invisible... DAMHIKT (crapiartaologist)
The only way you would tell is to stain it with some water dye this will show up any glue line.

That was my thinking, too, Harry. Break off an arm, drill hole, insert object, then invisibly glue it back on. Then roughly file the endgrain in the corners, and sand/plane the exterior faces to hide the join completely.

Carry, I think you've extrapolated from ". . .not steamed, split, bent." (Post #7) to ". . . no boiling . . ." (Post #9). Boiling is not the same as steaming. Splitting hairs perhaps, but distraction is the name of the game in magic. That's why magicians usually have a scantily-clad assistant. I PM'ed you the first "solution" I found, which I now believe to be invalid. I found one other which is likely similar to griffithpark's. I tested it, as well as a possible improvement I developed. I've prepared a two-part reply with pic's, ready for submittal if anybody wants to see them.

It wouldnt be that hard, no need for any filing or sanding crapiarta glues back up invisible(done it many times...), just wipe off the excess glue with a damp rag.
Is there any finish on them, hard to tell by the pictures.

Carry your right what was I thinking with perpendicular!

    Go for it.

It may not be the way the actual puzzles were done, but there's always more than one way to skin a cat. And who knows when your method may come in handy elsewhere?

    I have no solution.

But for whoever it was that mentioned it earlier looking for cheap xmas presents......have a look at this site.

    http://www.frik-n-frak.com/Dovetail-..._101-1910.html

The rubber band puzzle would be perfect for a wood turner. And no. I don't want one for xmas.

    No more puzzles.
