demo dramas
I occasionally get asked to do carving demos at woodwork groups,
when I whipped out my little electric chainsaw to start roughing out I was asked
NOT to use it without removing my modifications (handle and cowling on the bar)
I couldn't convince them that it actually made it safer and easier to handle,
an entertaining argument ensued amongst the members of the woodwork group
( who would've thought)
there was another demo on the night (bowl turning),
no eye protection, no mask,no dramas,
is it just me?
what if the hokey pokey is really what it's all about?

Not allowing modified tools to be used in a public area/event may be viewed as a club concerned with OH&S and maybe insurance. However, your mention of the later demo without protective gear squashes that theory.
