    Default Mango In Black Slimline

This pen/pencil set out of mango, I used Newts ehancing ebonizer at 400 grit, next day I sanded down and went up to 2500 and 15000, finished with EEE and Shellawax and then CA, then Shellawax. Amos, the Ebonizer seemed to really soak in at the ends and made them quite dark but it appears to match in with the black kit.

They look good Amos. The lighter timbers make the black stand out.

Pens look great, a lot better than the mango pen I did.

Those are some of the few pens I've seen where the black pen kit suited the timber. Good choice!

(From a bloke who still has most of his black kits left... )

    Great pens Amos,
Really admire the cases too. If you find the time - I'd really like to know how you make them - I'd like to have a go myself - but it is beyond my meagre ability at present.

Humber, I wish I was smart enough to make the cases, they are purchased ready made from Carroll's woodcraft, Gary Pye, or Carbatec and other pen kit suppliers. Amos

The cases are easy enough to make yourself, given a router table, but frankly just buying the timber and hinges costs more than a complete case! When you throw in labour and workshop expenses...

I've made the occasional one-off case for pens that don't fit in those ones, but only for very special ones!

    Geez,
I'm such a nooby. I did't realise that the suppliers would have wooden cases. I should have known. But it would be great to be able to make my own anyway. Think I'll have a go - when I get game enough.
    Best Wishes,
    Kerry

Humber, if you need extra help just shoot off a "personal mail" (PM) to me and I will give you my phone number etc., however you will find the people on this Forum are very knowledgable and helpful, just ask.
Hello Bernie, thanks for your comments, and Gerry, I did use Enhancing Ebonizing Solution(Newt's) which does enhance the grain in the wood and can make plain wood a bit more appealing, keep at it, Amos, for all who have commented , thank you very much,Amos
