I am about to start experimenting making a skateboard. Any suggestions to assist on types of veneers, configuration of grain direction etc. Any info at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Hi John

Welcome to the forum. Can't help you though. I made my first and last deck when I was 16 (pre google, pre forums) Put heaps of effort in, was super proud, and it snapped in the first 10 minutes. Been buying them ever since.

Canadian maple seems to be the timber of choice but I'd have a go with some European birch ply are you vacuum pressing or cold shaping?

    Cheers

    Default Timber for skate boards

When I was selling Paulownia I had a small number of customers interested in the timber because of it's low weight. It is not a normal structural timber but as your relieing on the fibre glass exterior for strength then this is not a problem. Paulownia is a staright grained timber that is easy to work with. I'ts softer than WRC but more user friendly. Give it a thought. There is a supplier in Burleigh Heads paulowniatimbersales.com.au.
