    Default Fixing a boat.

    Hello everyone,
This is my first post ever.
I'm a budding young cabinetmaker just about to finish his trade and am starting a shop in sydney.

However, I am currently working on a project of my own; replacing the transom in a boat..

I just bought a 24x12 sheet of marine ply, (for $220, mind you), and was told i have to treat the edges ASWELL

The questions i have for everyone out there are

    a) Do i really need to treat a piece of board that is purpose built for water?

    b) If this IS the case, what product should i use??

    Thanks people!

    Default Treat it all

Marine ply has waterproof glue and no cavitities in the layers of ply but you still need to epoxy, paint all surfaces of the ply to protect the wood the ply is made out of.
Easy way is to epoxy the sheet first with West System, Boat Cote or the like first then cut out the shape required and epoxy all the edges before fitting it then paint etc once its fitted in place
Do all this and you you will get a long life out it if you want to know more just search the forum for more info on epoxy etc.or go to Micheal Storer boats he has lots of hints on his web page
