    Default Epoxy for knotholes?

Hi guys, just after some info on what is the most common/popular epoxy used to fill knotholes or cracks etc in hardwood. And how will it go with an oil finish over it?

    Cheers

For small ones, araldite is popular; for larger ones, casting resin (I use araldite M, but there are others.)

They all seem to sand and take an oil finish quite well.

I prefer the clarity and low viscosity of casting resin. You might also try a wood filler (such as 'Timbermate', or another brand), which can match the colour.
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

Cheers guys, I'll see if I can find some casting resin and give it a go.

Check in the paint section of your local bunnings if you have one.

And what do people use to colour the epoxy - eg if you want the Araldite black or dark brown?

I use proper pigments from Stimsons (now gone to the big hardware store in the sky), but Bodgie put me on to watercolour paint. Sounds strange, but I gave it a try & it seems to work. Try it on scrap first.
