Looking for camphor laurel slabs
Hi, just new to the forums. Looking for a supplier of large camphor laurel slabs 35mm thick around Brisbane area, have to be dried, not green. How much should I expect to pay? Thanks

Hi Beginnerwood,
Treedocs, Thackery Street in Toowoomba have lots of camphor laurel, slabs and boards. Some of the boards have the best colour I've ever seen as well. I got a small slab from them during the last two years and it was definitely 30mm thick or more (can't remember it's buried at present).
Also suggest the Slab Hut in Brisbane too. Another good place to drool, er, visit
Prices? Go and have a look is the best idea. It's been over a year since I've been to either place so cannot remember the prices.
cheers
Wendy

depending on the size, grain figure and how dry it is you would expect to pay bewteen 80- 150 or more for a good slab. Even though camphor is a weed it takes as long as any other wood to cut and dry so whilst being generally cheaper than aussie hardwoods its not much cheaper.
As Wendy said, the Slab Hut at Capalaba, on these forums someone has slabs for sale I think, dunno if hes got camphor tho. In Toowoomba the Timber recyclers on Water street has good slab selection. Wendy, is treedocs still there at thackery street ?
Lionel Tomes new sawmill at Highfields near Toowoomba is very cool, Amalgamated timbers, heaps of stuff there and he will cut for you, lots of camphor logs.
Also the guys in Mullumbimby like the Woodworks and the Slab factory should have plenty of camphor."I am brother to dragons, companion to owls"

Thanks Wendy
It'sgreat to get my first reply. The slab hut is nearby so I'll check it out but I think they will be expensive for what I want. Toowoomba info will be helpful also. Ya gotta start somewhere!

Thanks Reeves
This is great getting so much info for the first posting. Gives me an idea of prices. Will have to visit Toowoomba apparently. But it's so cold there in Winter!

Not sure if you received my reply as I typed it in under yours. Is that how you do it? Remember I'm just new at this. Apreciate your help.
