First Compound Mitre Box
Had a go at a compound mitre box thanks to the worksheet AlexS posted, and the angles came out perfectly. Its Tasmanian Myrtle and Jarrah, finished with Kunos Oil. Quite pleased with the result.

that is really a nice idea to place the hinges in the corner posts of the box. I have never seen this before. I am sure that I wil try it one day too, to design such an unusual box.
You say that you are "quite pleased with the result"? I think you can be proud of the result. In German we have the expression "handwerkliche Perfektion" I would translate it with "artisan perfection". That describes the box much better.

Bldy brilliant box - I love it.
Be interested to know how you joined the legs to the box. Agree that the hinge idea here is very nice.
Can you also please post a link to the mitre angle worksheet that you used? There are a few versions floating around on the forum, and it would be nice to know which one of them has been verified in practice. Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

Goes to show wat sharing can do, doesn't it!
AlexS, not a bad application of your formula, is it?
A really interesting piece, from the angles, the hinge placement and the nice touch of the handles.
Looks ever better with such great timbers, too. I could never get that much satisfaction out of MDF.CJ

Excellent work. It is a very unique box. As a beginner I'm interested in the type of hinge used - what do you call them?

Very unique design, Dan. That box kind of grows on you and makes for a very nice piece.

Zenwood, AlexS beat me to it. Thats the link for the compound mitre cuts I used.
Adhmad. As far as I know they are just called concealed hinges. They come in various sizes and are available from "Professional Woodwork Supplies"
Here's the link www.woodworksupplies.com.au
And thanks everyone for the nice comments.
