Mitre Trimmer

I am having big problems making good mitres on picture frames and have been recommended to acquire a TORQUATA mitre trimmer. Does anyone have one and are they easy to use? Do you want to sell it? John

The same unit is available from both Carbatec & Timbercon.

They are great to use once tuned up. You will need to clean the wax off remove the blade and sharpen, then set up the 45 degree guides for an accurate 45 degrees. Then all cuts are shaving slices.....A perfect joint but as already stated you need to spend some time tuning.

"Almost perfect" mitres can be improved by clamping the frame components square to one another, with the imperfect mitres in imperfect contact. Then cut along the mitre, preferably with a back saw, so that the kerf removes some material from each side. There are corner clamps available**, with an accommodating gap for the saw. If the original mitres were very imperfect, another cycle may be needed.

A shooting board and a sharp handplane will do the same job.
