    is it possible to convert the motor on my lathe to variable speed? or do i have to go and buy the complete unit. bob

    My father did this to his lathe but he swaped the motor for a 3 phase and built a small converter from 240V to run it. It works great. I'm no electrical guru but I think you get much better torque and speed control by doing it this way.
