cheap GMC and Ryobi power tools in Melbourne
HI All,
I have found a store in Melbourne that sells mostly GMC and Ryobi tools really cheap. they are all new but there are a number of reasons they are discounted. some seem to be damaged during shipping though often enoug it is just damaged packaging. Some of them appear to be ex demo and some have bits missing. others seem to be run out stock.
anyway.. to give you an idea of cost, ryobi 13" thicknesser selling for $200 as opposed to $400 in bunnings. brand new in box.
there is a wide variety of stuff like sanders, grinders, mitre saws, dust collectors, chain saws, gardening etc.
some of the stock is damaged but easily fixable. i saw a GMC thicknesser with an infeed table that wouldnt fold all the way down because the infeed table was slightly damaged.. an easy fix with a pair of pliers.
anyway... its on the Hume hwy just north of Barry road across the road from the ford factory. I cant remember the name of the place but it isnt too hard to find.
i have no affiliation to them etc etc.. but i just thoguht people might be interested. It seems like a good way to try something out without spending too much money. The only thing to remember is that warranty is only 3 months on most of it..
cheers
joe
ps: only 13 more sleeps till the wood show )

Yeah, I got myself a 12" sliding compound miter saw, tilts both ways for $275.
I also got a 6" random orbital sander for $50.
Both had problems and I ended up getting a replacement saw, and a 6" sanding pad that was still intact. Fixed up with no problems
As for names, I don't know too many Turks named Rob
GPT is the company name, Ghebriels Power Tools. Now theres a good Turkish nameRay

Despite the problems I had with the original saw (gearbox shat itself real quick) the replacement unit has been working a treat.
I had REAL bad sounds when the saw slowed down, worked a treat under power though!
I must say those laser lines are a fantastic idea, spot on cuts every time but you do need to tweak them in inititially.
I suppose there is a warning when they will power up the tools before you walk out the door.
As for the sander, I just seen the exact same unit in the local hardware catalogue for almost $150, I've been using my sander big time in the last few days and I'm very happy with my 66% discount!
Oh yeah the same saw goes for close to $500 in Bunning$
So despite my early problems, I am happy now.
I was grumpy last Tuesday thoughRay

Ray, Did you just take the saw back to them to get it replaced?

Yeah, they replaced it, they didn't have much choice because I was getting a bit aggravrated given it it F**'d up the first time I used it in real use.
Better mileage than Bunnings methinks...Ray

Gday Mirz.
Honestly mate i dont know.. there are quite a few there so it would be best if you went up and had a look around. a belt sander would probably suit your needs. They are open almost all day saturday. added to that is the fact that some of them will need to be run before you buy them..
hope this helps.

Glad to find that he moved, I though he went out of businss. He used to be in Adrain Way, a block away. Last time I went there I must have driven past eth new palce and missed it. There was no sign near his old shop that showed he moved.
I bought a SCMS with a little amount of use. The paint on the blade was only smudged. Only one of the laser lines worked. Took it back, no problems with a swap and got a brand new one. It was only missing teh plastic ball on one of the knobs. It was for the hold down pin for transporting. Can still us eth hold down, so for saving well over $100 it was perfect.
Most of his stuff is either repairs, returned or faults. Just luck of the draw when you go there.
Perhaps Bunnings and the others should fire up the tools you buy to prove they work
